Barbara Ellen Hines (nee Murray)

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Barbara Ellen Hines (née Murray), 84, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, on April 4th, 2025. Barbara was born in Beechville, Halifax Co., NS. Her family moved into Halifax where she finished her schooling and lived and worked in all parts of what Halifax (HRM) is now. Barbara (Barb) started her career at Sears Canada Inc. as a keypunch operator and later moved to the accounting department. After leaving Sears, she worked at Bulk Barn until she retired. Almost every Thursday, the Sears girls would meet up for coffee, and it was something she always looked forward to. In the summer, she loved spending time at the cottage (Amherst Shore), her favorite place, where she had 50+ years of memories with family and friends. Her love for gardening was evident there, as she spent hours planting a variety of flowers that bloomed year after year. Barb was also very creative, often knitting or painting with her close friends. She enjoyed knitting clothes for her grandkids, as well as, creating beautiful artwork to share with her family. A true cat lover, she could often be found watching her soaps with her beloved cat, Grace, by her side. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of almost 40 years, Larry, and her four daughters Debbie Fenelon (Howard) of Edmonton, AB; Susan Robinson (Terry) of Truro, NS; Tammy Paddock (Wesley) of Upper Sackville, NS; and Roxanne Hines of Yarmouth, NS. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Kaitlyn (Dustin), Chelsea (Richard), Tyler (Heaven-Leigh), Christian (Samantha), Kyle, Joshua, Jocelyn (Tyson), Brianna and Brooke. Her precious great-grandchildren: Raya, Weston, Jamieson and Howard. Barbara is predeceased by her parents Howard Albert Murray and Dorothy Ellen, sister Dorothy Bulger (nieces Karen Keels and Cheryl Fraser) and brother Howard. She is also survived by her younger brother Kenneth Murray (Diane) of Riverview, NB., nieces Nancy Roach (Greg), Darlene Howell and nephews Kevin Bulger, Craig Murray (Shelley) and Jeff Murray (Claudette), along with many other generations of family. Barbara is also survived by her son Glen Williams (Shelly) of Mount Uniacke, NS, and grandchildren Ashton and Mathew. We want to thank all of Barbara’s family and friends who came to visit, offered thoughts and prayers and for the many messages, texts and reminders of how much she was loved. Barbara spent her last days at the QE II Halifax Infirmary floor 8-4. We want to thank the many doctors and nurses who treated her during her time there. Although her last days were difficult, she finally went home to her Lord and will be able to greet all that went before her. Cremation will take place immediately, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date, to be announced.
