Donald Roy Johnson

Donald (Don) Roy Johnson 15 September 1947 - 9 March 2026 Don Johnson, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep on 9 March 2026, at the age of 78. He was born on 15 September 1947, in Orillia, Ontario, to parents Ella Mae (Hurl) Johnson and Kenneth John Johnson (both pre- deceased). Don grew up in Hamilton Ontario with his three brothers. He was pre-deceased by his brother Alan (Amber), and survived by his brothers John (Sandy) and Robert (Christine). Don met his wife, Donna May Midge Hester, at the family cottage in Gravenhurst, Ontario, where the family spent many fun summers. They were married 1 June 1968, in Mississauga Ontario, and were married for over 57 years. Don was a career military man, serving as a pilot in the Canadian Air Force for over 30 years. Between 1966-1996, the career he loved took Don all over the world, primarily flying the Argus and the Aurora. Over the years he was posted to California; Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Comox, British Columbia; and finally to Greenwood, in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, where he retired, and then volunteered his time to the Lawrencetown Legion. In addition to his wife, Midge, Don is survived by his two daughters, Sherry Perjul (Andrew) and Kim Johnson (Randy). Don was also a loving Pappy to 7 Grandchildren: Alexandria Steeves (David), Kate Wolski (Rudy), Joshua Carver, Will Spaulding, Nolan Perjul, Zachary Spaulding (Hayleigh), Taylor Maher (Nate), and two Great-Grandchildren: Madison Steeves and Eileen Wolski. Don enjoyed an active life, walking daily, and sharing long hikes and golf days with close friends and family. Don and Midge spent many years remodeling an old house in Clarence, Nova Scotia to be their perfect home, and lived there for over 30 years, where he loved driving his motorcycle on the back country roads. Always creative, and always trying something new, Don enjoyed many hobbies including carpentry, cooking, painting, and puzzles, and in later years creating beautiful art on his tablet. Don chose to forego a service or ceremony, and the family extends heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and condolences during this difficult time.
