Frederick Kevin Wagner

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kevin Wagner, 64, of Halifax, announce his passing on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. Born in Halifax, Kevin was the son of the late Frederick Ronald Wagner. He worked for many years with the Metropolitan Regional Housing Authority. Throughout his life outside of work, you could usually find Kevin around a pool table or a ball field. He was a member of the Metro Pool League for roughly 45 years, starting with Scotia Legion in the 1980s and most recently playing with the Oasis team. He made many lifelong friends through pool over the years. Kevin also played fastpitch softball with teams including the Red Fox, Captain Eli’s and the Halifax Hitmen. He later spent many years coaching Highland Park teams, from youngsters right through to the ladies league, with close friend John-Wayne Matheson. A lot of Kevin's time was spent at practices, games, and on road trips, with plenty of good times and stories along the way. Kevin's love of ball didn't stop when he left the field. He was a big Toronto Blue Jays fan and never missed a game, even cheering them on with his nurses during his final hospital stay. Kevin was known by many as a “gentle giant.” He was a tall guy with a big heart and would do whatever he could for the people he cared about. He was lucky to have many good friends throughout his life, especially through his time playing pool, ball and coaching. And then there were the Toronto Maple Leafs. There is no doubt Kevin was one of their biggest fans; he was always dressed head to toe in Leafs gear. He was only four years old when they last won the Stanley Cup in 1967, but nearly 60 years without another Cup wasn't enough to make him give up on his team. He watched every game and, like every good Leafs fan, started each season hoping maybe this would finally be their year. The next time Toronto wins the Stanley Cup, we’ll know Kevin had a hand in it! Kevin was a huge animal lover and will be greatly missed by his fur babies, Star, Minnie, Bella and Pebbles. His beloved dog Wolf crossed the rainbow bridge a few years ago. Between Wolf, all the cats, dogs and even pet fish Kevin loved over the years, we like to imagine he had quite the welcoming committee waiting for him. Kevin is survived by his common-law partner, Lisa Beaver, and step-daughter, Stephanie Beaver (Jason Reeves); his daughters, Jillian Wagner and Kaitlyn Proudfoot (Ryan), and will be missed dearly by all, including the rest of his extended family and the many friends he made along the way. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at Fairview Lawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Rest in peace, Kevin. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
