James Michael Leppard

James Michael Leppard, born May 15, 1943, in Torquay, England, passed away on January 14, 2025, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He lived a full and active life, filled with love for his family, passion for his work, and a commitment to his community. James was predeceased by his parents, Percy and Ellen Leppard, and his sister, Theresa North. He is survived by his brother Lachlan (Sylvia) and cherished wife of 60 years, Pauline; his children, Peter, Myke (Lynne), and Mary (Paul); and his beloved grandchildren, Colin (Katherine) and Matthew, and step-grandchildren Michaela and Jayme, who were all the light of his later years. Nothing made him prouder than to see his family grow and build successful lives. James’ passion for work spanned over six decades in design and project management. While most would have considered retirement a reason to relax, James thought otherwise. If there was something to organize, build, or improve, he was your man. He loved tackling projects around the house, and Pauline always ensured his to-do list was never-ending. James was a lifelong lover of books and reading, and recently embraced the digital age by graduating to a Kobo, which he enjoyed immensely. A man of many talents, James spent his younger days playing the trumpet in a corps, later taking the helm of sailboats in Ontario and Nova Scotia. He thoroughly enjoyed his annual trip to ‘Iowa’ and spent many hours in gyms watching basketball games and cheering on his favourite players—Colin and Matthew. James loved traveling the world, often returning with colourful stories while already planning for the next big adventure. His community spirit shone through his contributions to Hope Cottage, St. Thomas More, St. Patrick’s, and his beloved Monday night group, where he was likely the unofficial leader of wit and wisdom. Every winter, he and Pauline found solace in Mexico, a tradition that provided much-needed relaxation and adventure. There, they were part of a vibrant community of friends from Mexico, Canada, and the United States, enjoying dancing, card games, and shared meals. James also volunteered at Auberge San Joachim Ancianos, a nursing home in Progreso, where he was part of a crew that painted and made repairs around the facility. He felt fulfilled knowing they were helping improve the lives of those living modestly. James lived a life full of purpose, joy, and a touch of mischief. He will be remembered with love, laughter, and perhaps a warm smile—preferably while somewhere sunny. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
