Joan Marie Bradburn

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Marie Bradburn, 73, of New Westminster, BC & Sambro Head, NS. Joan passed away peacefully surrounded by those that loved her on August 21, 2024. Joan was born on August 18, 1951, to Cecil and Isabel Bradburn in Janetville, ON. She was a people person. She lived by the rule that there were no strangers, only friends she had not met yet. She was a Canadian Snowbird, flying seasonally between the Atlantic and Pacific Canadian Coasts, with communities on each side eagerly awaiting her return. She could talk to anybody about anything and had the ability to make you feel at ease with her instantly. Her hands were never idle, whether making hot lunches at her grandchildren’s school, working on many, many sewing creations or chasing after her grandchildren and dogs. She would only be seen sitting (more like perching) with a cup of tea or a glass of Guinness in her hand. She was the best mother to her children and the little birds she picked up along the way. That was what made her special. She would give parts of herself to all she met. She left a long chain of people that experienced her genuine care and consideration and live everyday in the glow of her kindness. Once she made her way into your life she left a mark. Even if you didn’t see her for years, only spoke through the occasional email or lost contact with her all together you’d think of her fondly, remember the way she made you feel and took her with you in your heart. Joan will be forever dearly loved by her children Rebecca (Tanya), Josephine (Jody), Evangelina (Iain) and Brett (Navoda), her grandchildren Arthur, Oisin, Isola, Ioan, Faron & Cían, her brother Ralph (Helene) and children, her special pet family Poppy, Max, Shorty, Fitz & Onyx as well as many cherished friends. She was predeceased by her parents and those she also considered her parents Murray & Jean Stephens. A celebration of life will be held at 1-5pm on August 24th at Ketch Harbour Community Centre (964 Ketch Harbour Road). Cremation to be conducted privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Joan has asked for donations be made to Hope for Wildlife https://www.hopeforwildlife.net/ or any animal shelter/sanctuary of your choosing. The family would like to acknowledge the incredible and empathetic care from the nurses, doctors and staff at the Halifax Infirmary, particularly 3IMCU. You made her last few weeks as comfortable as possible, allowing her to find her voice while showing your respect. She was grateful that this country offers MAID, believing that this is a critical service all societies should provide. She was an advocate for the virtue of compassion and that no one should suffer against their will. We cannot thank you enough.
