John Doucette

John Doucette, age 65, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, at the QEll Health Sciences Centre (8.2). Born in Halifax in April 20,1960, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Thelma Doucette. John's life was defined by a rare combination of mischievous energy and deep compassion. Growing up in Halifax, he was famously accident-prone, a trait that provided endless material for the trouble he loved to stir up alongside his brothers, Murray and Kenny. He learned early on that humor was his greatest tool for social connection; John had a quick wit and a contagious laugh that could bridge any gap, put anyone at ease, and brighten the darkest of days. This natural ability to connect with people led John to his life's passion. He spent many years providing a vital and comforting service to his community through his work at local funeral homes. He was most recognizable from his time at Walker's Funeral Home in Spryfield and Cole Harbour Funeral Home, specifically during the years they were under the management of the Walker Family. John took his responsibility to grieving families seriously, yet he always brought that signature warmth and humanity to a profession that required both a steady hand and a kind heart. John was a man who spent his career organizing services for others, and because of that experience, he was very specific about his own wishes for many years. To honor those wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A direct cremation has taken place. For nearly a decade, John lived with the progression of Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. While this type of dementia presented many struggles, it did not diminish the core of his character. During this journey, John found a second family and a community at Northwood (Maritime Hills). His family wishes to extend a heartfelt and special thank you to the staff who cared for him with such dedication. A very special bond was shared with Meagan, as well as Lynn, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Janice, whose care and kindness provided John with comfort and dignity in his final years. John is survived by his son, Patrick; his granddaughter, Desaree; and his great-granddaughter, Everlynn. He is also survived by his sisters, Barb (Andrew), Pat (Todd), and Mary-Ellen (Alex), ex-wife, Theresa (Greg), along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Thelma (Clare) Doucette, and his brothers, Murray and Kenny. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Northwood Foundation in John's memory, to support the community that took such wonderful care of him.
