John Wilson Just

Passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, October 16, 2022 after a brief illness. He was born in Amherst on July 13, 1942, to the late John and Evelyn Just. Dad led many career paths, in the service of others, starting out in the grocery business with Dominion Stores, where he met Mom. As a business owner in the Spryfield area he operated the Shell Station and the Spryfield IGA. In 2002 he retired as a consumer counsellor from ACCESS Nova Scotia. Dad had a strong work ethic, a kind and compassionate heart for those in need and was a humble soul that would give you the shirt off his back! His quick wit, sense of humour and sarcasm could always make us smile. Even as sick as he was at the end, there were moments of laughter. These were gifts he gave freely his entire life. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 31 years, Patricia (MacIntyre) and most recently his companion of 13 years, his fur baby Chanel. His light will carry on in the hearts of those he leaves behind: daughters Anne and Mary, both of Halifax, special niece and “third daughter” Melanie Collier and husband Bill (whom he considered a son) and their son Xander who affectionately called him Papa, Truro, special nephew Jon Kelly MacIntyre, Dartmouth, brother Robert, Toronto, sisters: Muriel (Bill) Hale, Halifax, Dr. Evelyn Just, PhD, Edmonton, Rev. Millie Hope, Toronto. Dad also leaves behind his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and lifelong best friend and fellow Blue Jays fan Bob Workman; extended family Jimmy, Colleen, Conor and Godson Pearse Sweeney and Wade and Jackie Schnare, They were so much more than neighbors. They watched over and looked after our Dad when we couldn’t always be there to help him maintain his independence. Thank you Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Harbourside Regional Crematorium. In honoring Dad’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. A celebration of life and interment will be held at a later date. A special thank you to Dr. Asokan, the VON, palliative care team and the compassionate caregivers that assisted us in caring for Dad, in our home, in the last three weeks of his life. In keeping with Dad’s love of animals, donations may be made to the SPCA, Hope for Wildlife or the charity of your choice. In our sadness, we are comforted in the knowledge and belief that Mom and Dad are reunited again. May they Rest in Peace.
