Julie Allison Nielsen

It is with great sadness we let you know that at the age of 68 Julie left us very suddenly on July 17, 2026. Julie was a fighter who would stand up to anyone to defend a cause or idea she believed in. She fought so hard to stay with us but after a nine-month battle with cancer, her body was too tired to fight anymore. She was in her favourite place and among the people who touched her heart most profoundly when she passed. We are happy she had a final trip “home” to Nova Scotia; her only regret would be that she didn’t get to see all the people she loved so much. Julie had a long and successful career in procurement, working with many distinguished companies which took her from all over Canada to Europe. She worked hard and took great satisfaction in her professional accomplishments. Julie’s superpower was building strong friendships. Wherever she went, she made friends and cultivated those relationships over decades. The list of close friends who touched her deeply is too long to include here. She loved to entertain, cook and travel with close friends and family. Her spirit was loving and generous. Although her home has been in Calgary for the past 20 years, her heart was always in Nova Scotia. She was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Madeleine Nielsen and is survived by her siblings Niels (Deanna), Laura, Mary, and Eric (Sharleen) as well as her nieces and nephews Sarah, Zachary, Logan, Spencer, Samantha (James), Jack, Madelyn, and Summer. She had one very special great niece, Sawyer, who she was so anxious to meet, and she showed everyone her pictures. Her special family in Calgary were JJ, Heather and Luca. Her other Windsor family was the Edgecombes, Pam, John, their children and grandchildren whom Julie has known their entire lives. She wasn’t just a visitor, she was part of the household whether in Windsor or in the mountains. She will be missed beyond words. Julie’s sisters and brothers are especially grateful to JJ, Heather, Pam and John for the love and friendship they shared over years and the support they provided during her recent illness. We would all be fortunate to have friends such as these. A celebration of Julie’s life will take place at a later date.
