Kathryn Reith Blake

It is with surprising disbelief that these words are being written. Even as we received her prognosis and witnessed her decline, she seemed as ever to be an unstoppable force, destined to continue loving, serving, creating and smiling forever. To know Kathryn Reith Blake (known by friends as Blake) was to love her. She was one of those very special people with a golden heart who moved through life with the belief in her ability to do anything that she set her mind to. Anything, that is, except to overcome the cancer that took her body and sent her spirit back home on April 26, 2023. She was born in Quebec in 1951 and raised there too. However once she visited Nova Scotia she was captivated by its rugged beauty and the rawness of the sea. It became her home for the last 45 years of her life. One of her great accomplishments was turning a boggy barren in Ketch Harbour into a beautiful oasis with lush gardens, ponds, paths and a home she built from the granite foundation up. Blake carried a graceful mystery about her. A true creatrix, she gave birth to ideas, art and life of all kinds. She made her profession as a master papermaker, painter and author. She dreamed courageously and trusted so deeply in the intrinsic, co-creative connection she shared with Divine Spirit and the natural world. Blake was fiery and bold. She worked hard, and took pride in her accomplishments. Despite numerous painful personal setbacks over the years she was always a remarkably tenacious woman. As her end drew near she wept because she felt she still had so much left to create here on earth. She is survived and deeply missed by her mother, (Vera Blake), her three brothers (Gary, Doug and Peter Blake), her two doting daughters (Ariel and Noelle Blake-Richards), her dear grandchild (Ziya Richards) and so many loving family members and friends around the world. The thing that brought her such joy in her final months was reconnecting with old friends and sharing that special time with them. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held in the coming weeks.
