Leona Marie MacAdam

Leona Marie MacAdam 1967 - 2025 It is with extreme heartache that we announce the sudden passing of Leona on July 2, 2025 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, NS. Born in Sydney, C.B. Leona was the youngest daughter of the late Danny MacAdam and Alice (nee McNamara). Leona and her loving husband of 35 years Scott Dempsey resided in Herring Cove, NS. with their 2 fur babies Hank and Alie. Leona was the youngest of nine children and will be sadly missed by sisters and brothers Mary (John), Theresa (Howard), Cathy (Dannie), Isabel (Don), Karen (Mike), Halifax NS.; Wayne (Kathy), Ronnie (Sharon) Sydney; Donnie (Darlene) Ottawa. A proud aunt of several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. The Dempsey family will always cherish the fond memories of Leona as a loving, caring wife and stepmom. She will also be greatly missed by mother-in-law Jeanette Dempsey, Herring Cove and stepdaughter Ashleigh (Rene) Rothesay and grandchildren Emery, Maeva and Hudson, Rothesay, NB. Sister-in-law, Paula (Kevin), brother-in-law Erin, Herring Cove and cherished nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Leona is also predeceased by father-in-law, Keith Dempsey, and sister-in-law, Carolyn Dempsey, both of Herring Cove. Leona graduated form Riverview Rural High School, Coxheath in 1985. She continued her education at the College of Cape Breton and earned a diploma in Hospitality Management. She moved to Halifax in the mid eighties to work in the hospitality industry. No one who met Leona will forget her infectious passion for her career in hotel management. In August of 2010, Leona joined Royal Host and then in 2015 she joined the Holloway Lodging Team as the office manager. This is where she left an indelible mark and will be sadly missed by her coworkers and friends. As her coworkers and colleagues said, “Leona was the hub of the wheel…worked with quiet confidence, wore many hats.” This was the mantra of Leona’s extraordinary work ethic and dedication always. Leona’s passion also included spending her summers in Pictou, NS with loving husband Scott and their dogs where they would walk the beaches in search of sea glass. She also enjoyed watching curling and creating her diamond art. Her other enjoyment was spending precious time with grand children and organizing and staging family celebrations and events; Christmas being her favourite time. Important to Leona was time spent with friends, Nancy and Patsy on their special trips as well as shopping trips to New York with her sisters. Leona lived her life always wanting to give back to others in any way she could so we take solace that she has helped others through her organ donations. We also want to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at both the Victoria General ICU unit and Halifax Infirmary ICU unit for the wonderful care they gave Leona during her brief illness. Also, a special thank you to sister-in-law Paula for her immeasurable assistance and loving care. Leona left a legacy of friendship and heart-warming memories everywhere she went. A Celebration of Life will take place Tuesday, July 8 at 10am at Stella Maris Church,14 St. Michael’s Ave. Halifax, with Rev. Francesco officiating. Reception to follow at Golden Age Society Social Centre. Donations in Leona’s honor may be made to any local SPCA. “Gone too soon, yet here she stays, In every shadow, in sunlit rays.
