Marilyn Elizabeth Burns

BURNS (Covey, Murphy) MARILYN ELIZABETH age 86, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully with her family on June 8, 2024 at Maplestone Enhanced Care. Born on May 14, 1938 in Bridgewater, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Barbara (Whynacht) Burns. Marilyn was educated in the Bridgewater and Chester School systems and spent most of her married life working for the Provincial Government in various positions and departments, retiring in 1993 from the Department of Education, NS Museum. She was a member of the MicMac Aquatic Boat Club. She assisted in the beginnings of the Ladies MicMac Broomball Team and a coordinator with the Nova Scotia Broomball League of Nova Scotia. Marilyn and Ron relished starting their summers early with trips away to warmer destinations. Upon returning they would prepare their gardens and then head to the cottage on Keddy Cove Road, Molega Lake. More gardening and much time spent on the lake boating and paddling. Best remembered were the yearly family Thanksgiving dinners cooked on the wood stove. They had a passion for music and dancing. When the band was playing they were kicking up their heels on the dance floor. Mom was passionate about her family, especially the enjoyment and pleasure from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies were many, avid gardener, knitter extraordinaire, crocheting and crafting. Over the years she enjoyed many walks with her long time friend Joyce, Faye and adopted dog Kia and staying in contact with life long friends from away. She was very fond of animals, especially her very spoiled rescued cat Miss Daisy. Marilyn is survived by her dedicated husband Ronald Murphy. Daughters Wendy (Glen Williston, Gary Patterson) and Belinda (Sylvain Rouillard). Grandchildren Danielle Williston (great-granddaughter Lia MacKenzie); Annette Williston (Michael Teal) & great-grandson Kingsley Teal; granddaughter Tamara May Young. Sister in-law Rosemary Elizabeth Burns (Stevens) of St. George’s Channel, CB, (niece) Christine Elizabeth Burns of Truro and grandniece Alexandria Elizabeth Field; Sister in-law Donna Covey and daughters Deb, Denise and son Derek. Stepson Shawn Murphy (Kathy) and son Jesse, Stepdaughter Janice Thomas (Bradley) and daughters Alisha, Jayda, Mya, Tilly. Many special cousins. Marilyn is predeceased by parents Donald and Barbara (Whynacht) Burns; grandparents Stephen and Ella (MacKay) Whynacht, Bridgewater; Garnet and Margaret (Shauffelburg) Burns, Lunenburg. Cherished brother Donald Tyrrell “Terry” Burns; first husband Peter Covey. Brother’s in-law Hale Covey and Blair Covey. Grandson Matthew S. Young and step grandson Brandon Glasgow. We are so grateful for the care Marilyn received at Maplestone Enhanced Care. Truly compassionate and dedicated staff. Memorial donations can be made in Marilyn’s memory to your favourite charity. By Marilyn’s request there will be no visitation. A private burial will be held at the family plot in Bridgewater at a later date. **No Flowers By Request **
