Marion Grace {Sinclair} Lathem

Marion Grace (Sinclair) Lathem July 20th 1931 - July 18th 2024 Marion Grace (Sinclair) Lathem decided to celebrate her birthday by reuniting with her late husband of 68 years, Allen Lathem (1926-2023). Daughter of the late Edward and Hannah (Jordan) Sinclair. Born in Goshen, Guysborough County Marion grew up on a farm with her three siblings that she loved dearly. On Sundays, they would walk to church in Loch Katrine where she sang in the choir. At the young age of 14, her mother tragically passed. Without hesitation, Marion stepped into the role of caregiver for her family, a true testament to her resilience and strength. Marion’s passion for helping others naturally led her to a career in education. She attended The Nova Scotia Teachers College in Truro, class of 1954. She dedicated 25 years of her life to her students, she spoke of “her kids” up until her finals days. Marion left a lasting impact on her students from Goshen to the Annapolis Valley, her compassion did not go unnoticed. She was not only a wonderful teacher, but a loving wife of 68 years to her husband Allen Lathem and mother of two sons Andy Lathem and Everett Lathem. Along with two granddaughters, Callie and Morgan whom she adored. Do not be mistaken for her small stature and kind smile, she knew just how to keep things in order. The house was always in immaculate condition, the fridge and freezer were always full just in case company stopped in and you never left her home empty handed. It didn’t matter what time of the day you dropped in, Marion always had muffins, biscuits and squares ready for company. She had her own way of making you feel special, no matter who you were she wanted to know all about you. A woman of few words but significant action. Al and Marion loved camping with friends, playing cards, watching Jepoardy and doing Lexicon puzzles together. She loved a good yard sale, Frenchys trip and stopping for dinner at the Big Scoop for haddie bits and mashed potatoes. She may have drank her tea black but she had a real love for sweets. There was always room for dessert even if that was just a spoon full of strawberry jam. Marion will be remembered as a strong, resilient and selfless woman that dedicated her life to serving others through teaching, caring for family and friend and exuding kindness everywhere she went. A loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by many but never forgotten.
