Sterling Marcus “Mike” Wanamaker It is with profound love and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sterling Marcus “Mike” Wanamaker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Surrounded by those who cherished him the most, he left this world knowing he was deeply loved. Mike passed away on Friday, December 19th, 2025, at Moody Hall Nursing Home in Halifax, NS at the age of 87. Born on January 14, 1938, in Nauwigewauk, NB, he was the youngest son of the late Lawson and Lena (Campbell) Wanamaker. Predeceased by his wife of 53 years Doris (DeAdder), and his four older brothers, John (Gladys), Ted, Walter, and Bill; Mike was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his daughters Tanya and Nicole (Shawn) Gibson, son Jeffrey (Laurie), his grandchildren Drew (Kellen) and Ben Wanamaker, Emily and Aidan Gibson and his great- granddaughter Mieke Wanamaker as well as extended family. Mike began his forty-year career in grocery and brokerage sales in Saint John, NB working for Maple Leaf Mills. He moved to Kentville, NS in 1960 and fell in love with the valley and decided to stay. His sales territories changed periodically while working for Murray Spencer & Co., but he and Doris built a life in South Alton. Home and family meant a great deal to Mike. Spending time together and sharing a good meal was one of his favorite things. He enjoyed hunting, playing hockey, camping and vacations back on the dairy farm in Nauwigewauk where he grew up. After retirement , he spent time growing his vegetable garden, curling, card games with family and friends, volunteering at his church and time spent with his grandchildren. If you knew Mike you would know that he always cheered on his favorite sports teams, the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Blue Jays. Mike’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Moody Hall Shannex for the special care that was given to our dad over the past seven months. Cremation has taken place at Harbourside Regional Crematorium in Halifax. Mike’s ashes will be interred at Elm Grove Cemetery, in Steam Mill, NS. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Donations in memory can be made to, the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
