Susan Wanda Moen

With grief and release, we inform family and friends that Susan Wanda Moen passed away on Oct. 6, 2025. Susan was born on May 13, 1951. Her mom liked to call her her Mother's Day present! Both Susan and her dear brother, Stewart passed on(July 17, 2023) in their sleep at the Arborstone Extended Care, 4th floor. Susan had a bad fall from her wheelchair on Jan. 3, 2025 and had been admitted to the VG where she stayed for five months. Realizing that Susan needed continued care, it was encouraging news to be informed that Arborstone had an opening available in early June. Susan received wonderful care from kind, caring, professional Staff members both at the VG hospital and Arborstone. At Arborstone, Susan got into the routine of waking up, changing from nightwear to day clothing, and often wheeling herself down to the dining area for her favourite meal: breakfast. The other residents welcomed her and included her in conversations. Susan shared a table with her two congenial table-mates, Raj and Ruth. Prior to being a resident at Arborstone, and despite longtime health issues, Susan retained her independence and lived in comfortable apartments for many years. She was a unique and special lady; artistically inclined, caring, determined and loyal, interested in painting, very intelligent and a voracious reader who purchased many books and valued her inherited volumes. Susan loved her family who were shaped for years by her father’s naval career and consequent moving. Their family of four were very closely knit. Susan loved to reminisce about visits to her grandparents on their apple farm in Kingsport. Their family reunions were very special. Her grandfather ploughed his fields using two very large horses, opting not to buy a modern tractor. Susan was predeceased by her grandparents, Stewart and Emily(Weaver)Loomer from Kingsport and Gustav and Hazel (Lampman) Moen from Outlook, Sask. She was predeceased by her dear parents, Navy Lieutenant Commander (Ret’d)Arlo Moen and Shirley. Susan’s parents had met during WW2 in Halifax: east meets west! She was also predeceased by special aunts: Muriel, Wilda, Viola, Lucy and Eleanor and uncles Elijah Loomer and Neil(Vivian)Moen. Susan was predeceased by her dear brother, Stewart Gustav Moen who was very patient, kind and loyal to his sister as well as his wife, Hope. Susan is survived by her Aunt Maddie and Aunt Ruth, Stewart’s widow, Hope(MacEwen) Moen, niece Sarah(Dylan) MacKenzie, great niece Isla, great nephew Nolan, numerous cousins in Nova Scotia, Ontario, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Her much-loved cousin, Gary shared a close bond and sense of humour with both Susan and Stewart. The family wants to thank the VON and Northwood Home Care who faithfully enabled Susan to stay in her apartment. We thank her doctors over the years and the Staffs of the VG Hospital and Arborstone Extended Care, both on the 4th floors.
