Terence Joseph Smith

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Terry, age 54, our treasured husband, father, brother, son and uncle. Terry passed with his loving family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Dublin, Ireland, Terry was the son of Tony Smith and the late Maureen (McCarthy). He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, and their two children, Aidan and Riley. He is also survived by his daughter Kayleigh and his son Anthony, sisters Sue and Audrey (George), and brother Jason, father and mother-in-law, Reg and Pat Lewis, sister-in-law Shawna Noel, brothers-in-law Chris Lewis (Mary) and Tim Lewis (Elisa) and many nieces and nephews. Besides his mother he is predeceased by his older brother, Tony. Terry grew up in Dublin, Ireland and as a teenager started his career in the Restaurant/Hospitality Industry. He studied in Dublin and became an Executive Chef. Food was definitely his passion. He worked in many restaurants and hotels in Ireland and also for a brief period in London, England. Later in his 20’s, he moved to Florida where he met Barbara. They were working at an Irish pub together. When people asked how they met, Barbara would tell how Terry was her boss and Terry would quickly respond, “and now she’s mine!” Terry had a witty sense of humour. The couple had their son in Florida and later moved back to Barbara’s hometown, Halifax, NS. where they had their daughter. Terry continued in the restaurant industry in management. He never lost his passion for food, always cooking gourmet meals, making cakes and his famous shepherd’s pie, and the cheese balls he made at Christmas. Terry could always be found in the kitchen. His last five years he worked at Costco as a bakery supervisor. He was a huge asset to the Costco team and they generously showed him their appreciation and love which meant the world to Terry. Terry’s passions were his family, his work, creating and cooking amazing food and football (soccer). Celebration of Life will be on September 26, 2025 at 1pm at Sheffield Baptist Church in Clayton Park. We would like to thank all the people who prayed and supported us in so many ways during this difficult time. It means the world to all of us and we are forever grateful. We would also like to thank all the staff at the QEII Hospitals for the wonderful care you gave Terry and our family.
