Thomas Murray "Tom" Dolomont

Thomas Murray “Tom” Dolomont, age 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in North Sydney, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Thomas and Kathleen (Murray) Dolomont. Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He shared 64 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Carol (Gillard) Dolomont, and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this November. Their life together was a testament to love, partnership, and family. Known affectionately as “Grampy, ” Tom had a deep love for children and took great joy in time spent with his family. He found happiness in tending to his roses, enjoying a Pepsi (or three), and spending time at his favourite place—his parents’ cabin on Long Island, Cape Breton. Quiet by nature, Tom possessed a unique sense of humour and wit, along with a remarkable memory and a “Rolodex” of interesting facts. He had a natural gift for teaching and took great pride in sharing his knowledge with others, always ready to explain something with patience and care. Tom was generous and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Jim, Donnie, Robert; and his brothers-in-law Clayton “Clayt” Hatcher, Ron Colpitts, John Langford, George Day, and Robert Gillard, and sisters-in-law Eileen (Jobe) Dolomont, Peggy (Gillard) Kavanaugh. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his children: David, Scott, Darin (Lisa), and Krista (Donnie Forrest); his cherished grandchildren: Meaghan (Jordan Thomson), Mallory, Abby, and his great-grandchildren: Jaxin, Levi, and Parker. He is also survived by his siblings: Judy (George Day), Mike (Valeria), Marjorie (John Langford), Jean (Clayton Hatcher), Kitty (Ron Colpitts), and Jim (Carolyn), and by his brother and sisters-in-law Edward “Ted” Gillard, Arlene Gillard, and Debby Gillard as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members, as well as cherished grandchildren who joined the family through marriage; Christopher, Samantha, Serena, Carly, Kyle, and Kaitlyn. Tom’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the care and compassion shown to him. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him. As per Tom’s request, there will be no formal service. A burial will take place at a later time, and a celebration of life will be held to honour his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory may be made to the MS Society of Canada.
