Ruth Edna Fader

Fader, Ruth Edna (Strong) BSW, MSW Sept 21/40 -Dec 17/21 The sons of Ruth Fader regretfully announce her passing at the age of 81 from Parkinson's Disease. Ruth was born in North end Halifax NS to Howe and Edna (Forrest) Strong. The youngest of 6, she was predeceased by Viola, Margaret, Irene, and Bill. Ruth leaves behind her eldest sister Jean Nagle, three sons, Michauel, David (Suzanne) ,and Bryan Fader,11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ruth was a pioneer in her Social work career. She was an advocate for children in need, (Step 16-20, Hawthorne House and Child protection services), correctional services reform (Probation, Bedford Police Commision ,and Parole Board of Canada) and the acknowledgment of rights and benefits for Veterans (Veterans Affairs Canada). Ruth most notably was the "social worker" during the Goler clan crisis in the Annapolis Valley creating a National Parole program to aid parolees in community reintegration. Ruth loved academia and was a life-long learner obtaining her Masters of Social work (MSW Dalhousie, 05') at the age of 65. A lifelong Liberal party member, Ruth volunteered as the provincial secretary for the Liberal party and knocked on thousands of doors in the support of numerous candidates. In her retirement years, Ruth settled in the Windsor NS area and opened Edgehill Bed and Breakfast.Her sons would like to thank Gloria, Sharon, DeDe, Theresa and everyone at Gladys Manning retirement home for their support.Special thank you's to Dr C Smith, Dr S Campbell and the staff of Windsor regional second floor Palliative Care unit. Donations may be made in Ruth's name to the Parkinson's association of Nova Scotia or M.A.I.D. Private family service will follow at a later date.
