Brenda Mae (Wambolt) Ratchford, 73, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of love, warmth, and devotion to her family. Born and raised in Sydney, Cape Breton, Brenda was the cherished daughter of the late Ernest and Bernice Wambolt. She carried her Cape Breton roots proudly throughout her life and later made her home in Halifax, where she built many lasting friendships and memories. Brenda shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Douglas Ratchford, who predeceased her. Together they created a home filled with love, laughter, and strong family bonds. She was a devoted and loving mother to her daughters, Melva (Jim) Reynolds of Halifax and Laurie (Jonathan) Muttart of Albany, Prince Edward Island. Brenda was a proud and adoring grandmother to Keigan, Owen, Layla, and Eli, who were the light of her life and brought her endless joy. She is also survived by her sisters, Deborah, Marlene, and Allana. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Melvin. Brenda was well known for her wonderful cooking and baking, and her home was often the heart of family gatherings. She had a special gift for bringing people together, whether around the kitchen table or on the dance floor—family dancing was truly her specialty. She enjoyed her work as a personal house cleaner, where she formed meaningful connections with many kind people over the years. Brenda took great pride in her yard and her beautiful flower gardens, and she cherished long walks with her favorite sidekick, her beloved dog, Denniken. At this time, the family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to all the staff at St. Vincent Nursing Home, especially the 6th floor care providers who supported our mother daily and offered such compassionate support to our family during Mom’s passing. Your kindness and dedication will never be forgotten. Brenda will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, strength, and the deep love she gave so freely.
