Carl Odegard

It is with deep and profound sadness that we share the passing of Carl Odegard, who left this world on May 12, 2025, after fighting a valiant battle with unwavering courage and strength. Carl’s life would best be described as a long and winding road, filled with countless adventures and vivid memories. Born on January 14, 1937, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Carl was raised in the coastal community of Glen Haven. After the death of his father, he left school early to help support his mother and three siblings. He took on odd jobs around the community, hunted, and fished—all to ensure his family’s well-being. An intelligent and capable young man, Carl was guided by many mentors throughout his life, most notably his grandfather. Under his grandfather’s guidance, Carl developed a deep and lasting passion for carpentry, a craft he honed with remarkable skill and dedication. That passion would become both his profession and his calling. Throughout the years, Carl wore many hats. He served as the Building Inspector for the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and held the respected position of High Sheriff for the County of Lunenburg. Yet, it was to carpentry that he always returned. He worked with his hands—and his heart—until the very end, recently saying he loved every minute of it, especially the many friends he made along the way. Carl found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life: fishing, time with family, travelling and a good laugh. When his children were young, one of his favorite things was taking them fishing, sharing not just the skill, but his deep love of nature and quiet moments by the water. He especially loved Kejimkujik National Park and trout fishing, where he found peace and solitude. Carl had a warmth and charisma that drew people to him. His laugh could fill a room, and his soft spot for a damsel in distress was well known. Someday, if you find yourself at Exit 5 off Highway 103 at supper time, stop in to Lefty’s Restaurant and ask for Carl’s table. They will lead you to the best seat in the house. Carl is survived by his brother, Donald Odegard (Eleanor); his children, Lynn Odegard (Danny), Karen MacNeil (Kenny), Dana Odegard (Sara), and Randy Johnson (Shelly); his 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and countless friends He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Jill Odegard, his mother Patricia Odegard, father Jens Odegard, and sisters Kay Tanner and Betty Larsen. Carl’s life touched many, and his legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, and joy will live on in the stories told and the memories shared by all who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Carl’s life on Sunday, June 8th, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Seabright Legion. All are welcome to come share stories, laughter, and memories in honor of a man who meant so much to so many.
