Darlene MacLeod

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Darlene MacLeod, age 72, who departed on the evening of July 21st after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Smelt Brook, Darlene was the daughter of the late Stevie and Delphina Rambeau. As the eldest of seven children, she naturally took on the role of caretaker. Together with Arnold MacLeod, they built a family, raising their two sons in Dingwall. Her career, marked by dedication and compassion, spanned Homecare, as well as Group and Small Option Homes in Cape Breton and Halifax, where she was cherished by her clients and coworkers. Darlene’s life was enriched by many friends, family, colleagues, and clients, all of whom she treasured deeply. Among these connections, her relationship with the MacKinnons of South Harbour was particularly special. She fondly remembered her childhood days spent with Linda and Austine, a bond that remained strong throughout her life even in her final moments. Darlene was surrounded by a family with tremendous love and affection. It was their steadfast support and dedication that ensured she had everything she needed during her illness. Her unwavering love for her family sustained her through her illness. Even while enduring the side effects of treatment, she could often be found playing with her grandkids, laughing and enjoying every moment with them. Darlene leaves behind her two sons, Walter and Dwayne, along with Dwayne's wife, Aleasha, and her adored grandchildren—Keagan, Maddox, Brielle, Atticus, and Hunter, whom she affectionately called her “littles.” She is also survived by her siblings Wilma, Joey (Michelle), Bobby (Bonnie), Arnold, and sister-in-law, Kim. Darlene was predeceased by her sister, Isabelle Rambeau, brother, David Rambeau, and brother-in-law, Paul Tilley. Her absence leaves a profound void in our lives, yet we take solace in the belief that she is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before her. Our deepest gratitude goes to the staff at the QEII and the Cancer Centre for their care and compassion. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 31st, at 11:00am, at the Church of Saint Joseph in Dingwall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you take a moment to enjoy the sun on your face, listen to the talking trees, and don't let a good beach day go to waste.
