Dorothy Baggio

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Baggio on January 21st, 2025 at The Mira, nursing home in Truro, Nova Scotia. Dorothy was born in Port Hood on August 13th, 1937 to parents Alex and Florence (Murphy) MacLean. Dorothys passing comes 53 days after the passing of her beloved husband, Romano Baggio. Dorothy spent her early years in Port Hood and discovered at an early age her love of music. As a young girl she enjoyed playing the piano and highland dancing. Mom loved Celtic piano music and was an accomplished musician herself, playing with very well-known Cape Breton fiddlers over the years such as Buddy McMaster, John Donald Cameron and Rodney MacDonald, to name a few. Her passion also included working for the Royal Bank, a career that spanned over fifty years until she was well into her seventies. Because of her kind and caring nature, Mom was loved and respected by all her clients. Dorothy was married to Romano Baggio for sixty years and together they raised two sons Condo (Joe) and Allan. During this time, they lived in various provinces across Canada while Romano was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Dorothy loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren whom she adored. Aside from her parents, Dorothy was pre-deceased by her husband Romano, her sisters Catherine (Tatters), Elizabeth (Betty) and daughter-in-law June. Dorothy had a deep love for all animals and enjoyed her fur-grandbabies Bella, Rose, Tammy, Jessie, Lucy, Sophie and Alice. She asked about them daily and oftentimes brought them presents. Dorothy is survived by her sons Condo (Heather) and Allan (Sandy), sister Sally Watts (Port Hood) and brother Jim MacLean (Port Hood), brother-in-law Leo (Darlene) (Sydney), grandchildren Mackenzie, Alexander, Ethan and Joseph along with many nieces and nephews. A very special thanks to all staff at The Mira nursing home in Truro, Nova Scotia for their kindness and compassion. The nursing home provided Mom with a high level of dignity and care during her stay over the last year. Romano spent quite a bit of time visiting Dorothy while he was in Cedarstone Enhanced Care in Truro, NS during the Fall of 2024. They cherished these daily visits, enjoying each others company, talking and holding hands. A celebration of life will be held on a later date.
