Gail Starlet DeWolfe

Gail Starlet DeWolfe (Townsend), beloved mother, sister and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 17, 2026 at the age of 74. Born on July 12, 1952 at Halifax, Nova Scotia to parents Hazel Jean Parker and Harry Kenneth Townsend, both pre-deceased. Gail grew up with seven siblings. She was predeceased by her brothers James, Jesse, and David Townsend, and by her sister Jean Fall. She is survived by her brother Daryl Townsend and her sisters Beverly (Randy) Ramey and Cindy (Gunther) Kruger. Gail was known throughout her life for her giving nature and her instinct to care for others. Whether offering help, sharing what she had, or showing up for people in quiet ways, she carried a generosity that left an impression on many who knew her. Her life, like all lives, held complexity. She was a caring person who extended warmth and support to those around her, even when her own journey was not always easy or straightforward. Those who knew her will remember both her kindness and her humanity — the ways she tried, the ways she struggled, and the ways she still shaped the people connected to her. She had a sharp wit about her and always made room at the table for anyone who needed. Gail joined the Order of Ladies Glades and was an original member of the Elms Glades #11 from May 29, 1982 and became a third degree on April 18, 1987. She was exalted to Roll of Honour on September 25, 2012. Gail was also affiliated with four other Glades. She was a very hard worker for the Glades, the Harbour Lodge, as well as the Pride of Dartmouth Lodge. This is where she formed lasting friendships and served her community with dedication. She was predeceased by her husband Carmen DeWolfe, who was the love of her life. Carmen was also a Roll of Honour life member of Harbour Lodge 53 and was a Grand Lodge officer in Hamilton, Ont. They spent many happy years doing the things they loved to do. Meeting friends at the Buffalo Club, enjoying cottage time, lobster boils, family gatherings and many late night card games, were just some of the moments they cherished. “And Gail would kick a lot of butts in a game of crib!” Sadly, Carmen passed away suddenly in 1988, and is still missed dearly. Gail is survived by her children, Christina Marie Farrar, Christopher Ronald Farrar and Kimberly Michelle (Mike) Eddy and her grandchildren, Trent, Niko, Brook (Dylan), Makayla and Maeson, who carry forward the parts of her that were strong, compassionate, and uniquely hers. In remembering her, the family honours not only the moments of care she offered, but also the truth of her story; a life marked by effort, imperfection, and a genuine desire to give. A private service will be held at a later date to honour her life and reflect on the memories she leaves behind. Gail will be laid to rest with Carmen at the Atlantic Memorial Gardens and will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her. In lieu of flowers, do an act of kindness today, tomorrow, or whenever the opportunity arises. Say a little prayer or whisper to Gail. ‘She will hear you.’
