Madge Cecilia Driscoll

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Madge Cecilia (Munro) Driscoll – age 92 announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Melville Lodge in Halifax. Born in Halifax, NS, she was the daughter of the late William and Beatrice (Kelly) Munro. Madge was a loving wife to her late husband David P. Driscoll; a caring mother to her children Margaret King, Barbara (Paul) MacDonald, Eileen Leahey, Robert (Gail) Driscoll, Paul (Paula Lee) Driscoll, and mother-in-law to Paulette. A loving and supportive grandmother to Laura (Mel) King, Kari (John) Turner, Brian (Amy) King, Emily MacDonald, David (Chelcea) Driscoll, Luke (Pierre) Driscoll, Paul (Cara) Driscoll, Stephen (Ola) Driscoll, and Olivia (Allistair) Driscoll. Great-grandmother “GG1” to Jaida, Ruby, Venice, Hendrix, Alexandra, Vada, Darci, Tessa and Jaxon. Sister to Elsa Beattie, and Susan (Clyde) Baltzer, and sister-in-law to Albert (Theresa), Maureen, Kenneth (Verna), Margaret, and Peter (Marilyn). In addition to her parents, Madge was predeceased by husband David P. Driscoll, son David W. Driscoll, sister Loraine Beattie, sons-in-law Brian King and Robert Leahey, and brothers-in-law John Driscoll and Father Vernon Driscoll. At a young age, Mom attended St. Thomas Aquinas where she studied piano, participated in Girl Guides and enjoyed collecting stamps. Having graduated with Secretarial Studies from Mt. Saint Vincent Academy, Mom worked for Mutual Life Insurance before her marriage of 68 years to Dad. After raising us, she dedicated her career to working as School Secretary at Oxford School, and Sir Charles Tupper School. As well, Mom spent over 30 years volunteering as a Halifax Girl Guide Badge Secretary. Mom’s greatest joy was her family, cherishing every moment spent together. Whether entertaining family or friends at home, or at the cottage in Green Bay, Mom always found happiness in the love and laughter of everyone around her. If you were stealthy enough, a quick visit to the freezer would always result in a home-baked cookie or two. Mom loved music and enjoyed playing the piano well into her 90th year. She loved to swim, play badminton and bowl, Mom was an extremely competitive card player, especially when playing cribbage, 45’s and bridge. A social butterfly fostering strong friendships, Mom enjoyed attending a weekly knitting club with her Aquinas Club ladies and cruising the world with Dad building life-long friendships along the way. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Harbourside Regional Crematorium. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Ronald Cairns on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 10:00am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church -1725 Oxford St., Halifax, with reception to follow. Private family inurnment will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Halifax. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Melville Lodge for their care and compassion during Mom’s final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
