Mark Walsh

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mark Christopher Walsh, a cherished son, brother, and father. He leaves behind his adored children, Katie and Jack, their mother Erika Walsh, his father Gerard, his six siblings, Sharon (Bruce), Debora, Moya, Gerard (Joanne), Margot, and Helen and extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, numerous friends, and his beloved dog, Gus. Mark was predeceased by his mother Bernice Walsh (Doran). Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador in 1967, Mark was a cherished early Christmas gift, especially to his six siblings. He was a St. Bon’s boy and then Brother Rice High School. Mark relocated to Halifax and in 1989 graduated from St. Mary’s University with a degree in Political Science. Post-graduation, he took a summer job at Jasper National Park. He fell in love with the mountains and met and fell in love with Erika, the Vancouverite who would be the mother of his children. They settled in Vancouver, where Mark began his career in one of the first Laser Eye surgery clinics in Canada. While living in Vancouver, he volunteered with the 72nd Seaforth Highlanders and became a Second Lieutenant reservist. He wore the kilt proudly. Mark continued with various other business endeavours and developed extensive global experience in operations, sales, marketing, and networking. He consulted for, owned, and operated successful businesses in both Canada and the US. In 1998, Mark and Erika moved to Nova Scotia to open one of the first Laser Eye surgery clinics in NS. It was here they welcomed their children, Katie and Jack. Changing gears and following in his mother's footsteps, Mark entered real estate with Exit Realty where he greeted everyone with a smile and an open heart earning him the title “Rookie of the Year”. Mark, affectionally ‘Sharky’ to his friends, was the definition of charming and had an irresistible personality, attributable to his Newfoundland roots. He lit up a room with his presence and humor. No dinner or family gathering was complete without him. Dubbed the 'King of Quips,' his sharp and speedy wit was unmatched. His replies in family group texts were rapid fire and filled with laughter. We often joked that he missed his calling as a standup comedian. Mark’s generosity to his family knew no bounds. He was the epitome of a gracious host and he could cook a mean steak. An enthusiast of pop culture, music, and history, Mark had a remarkable knack for finding and sharing the perfect YouTube video on any topic that was up for discussion. But he was also a deeply emotional person and wore his heart on his sleeve. Mark was immensely proud of his children and loved watching Katie and Jack succeed in sports, academics and life. Mark is already profoundly and deeply missed. He will forever remain in our hearts. We love you Markie.
