Mary Pauline Forbes Mary Pauline Forbes (LeBlanc Edwards, 78) passed away in the most peaceful state on February 11th 2025 at Hospice Halifax. After battling too long with cancer, Mary was able to go surrounded by the people she loved most, listening to her favorite song to sing us, You Are My Sunshine. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Also was a witty woman, outspoken and never shied away from the truth. She kept everyone she knew on their toes with love and commitment. She took care of the people in her life until the very end and we’ll forever be missing apart of us without her. Mary was born in Arichat, Cape Breton on November 7th in 1946 to parents Theresa and Amedee LeBlanc. At the time, Theresa did not know she was pregnant with twins and along came Mary and Paul (Paul and Pauline). Unfortunately, Paul did not survive, and it was unknown if Mary would as well, but are we ever blessed she did! Being the youngest of 6 siblings, she had a dream bigger than her small hometown. She left home for a new adventure to Halifax in 1956 on Easter Sunday and never looked back. She met her first husband, David Forbes, in 1965 and from there had 2 beautiful children, David and Angela (Forbes). In her spare time of being a mother, Mary loved going to the dances and tavern with her best friends, most notably Edith Tibbo, her partner in crime to the very end. In 1993, Mary became what she would come to love the most, being a grandmother. After Celina was born came Niomi, Hailey and Tyler (Forbes). Her grandchildren were her lifeline, and she was certainly theirs. After meeting her second husband, Vernon Edwards, she was able to not only gain a step-child (Darlene Brow) but also obtaining 4 more step-grandchildren (Lindsey, Vincent, Randy and Jamie) and was she ever filled with love and contentment. We could go on and on about how amazing she was, how humorous and kind, how beautiful of a heart she held, how her strength alone was enough to get an entire family through anything (and we mean anything!) but if you were lucky enough to know her, these are just a few of the many things you know she was. A celebration for Mary’s life will be held in the Spring in her hometown of Arichat and if you could join us we would appreciate it. Mary has made it very clear she does not want people to mourn but rather be happy for her peace (no wearing black!) If you cannot make it and would like to honour such a special soul, a donation of any kind made to the Hospice Halifax would be more than gracious.
