Scott Gregory Martin

MARTIN, Scott Gregory Aged 62 years, Scott passed away on July 24, 2024 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Beth, daughter, Rachel Alexander (Drew), son, Max Martin (Samantha) and “Gramps’ Girl” Emma Alexander. The world will be a quieter place without his boisterous voice and many tales. Scott was a story-teller – he would often start a conversation with “back in the day” and then go on to describe a work experience, a football tale, or another memory. His sales career included Coca-Cola Bottling, O’Regan Automobiles and Steele Auto Group among others. A long-time Raiders fan, football was his passion. He played minor and high school football in his youth and went on to play in the Junior League in Ontario. He was ecstatic when Max showed an interest in football and became a dedicated volunteer. Scott was active in football programs including Dartmouth Destroyers, Sackville Mustangs, Sackville High School and Dalhousie Tigers Football Club as Max progressed through the years. He was also a referee with the Nova Scotia Football Officials Association until his illness progressed. Equally proud of his daughter, Rachel, he became active in the local soccer community throughout her involvement in that sport. He was past president of the former Sackville United Soccer Association (SUSA) and proudly watched the growth of soccer and the development of Sub-Urban Football Club in the Sackville area. Many will remember him calling “Go Boo!” as Rachel ran down the field and the ensuing “Dad!” that would surely follow. A long-time member of Knox United, he was active as an Elder and was a former Sunday-School Superintendent. Our Knox faith family has provided so much support and love during Scott’s illness and we are eternally grateful to all, but especially to Fred and Caroline Gallop, Jean Collier, Mary-Beth and Dean Fancy. Our dear friends Yves and Alice Dastous, Scott Burke, Mark Haggett, Jennifer Gray, and Michele and Brian Haire have been ever-present and stalwart in their continuous support of our family. Scott also enjoyed his time as a member of the Sackville Lodge No. 137. His friendships were many and we are ever thankful for each one of you. Scott was pre-deceased by his beloved mother, Vera Martin. Visitation will be at Knox United, 567 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville on Tuesday, July 30 2024 from 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral will be held at the same location at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
