Doiron (née Melanson) — Heaven gained a beautiful soul with the passing of our Mom, Nanny, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend, Stella Jeanette Doiron. She crossed over peacefully at home in the presence of her beloved family on December 29, 2025, at the age of 86. Mom was the daughter of the late William and Jane (Brine) Melanson. She was born on July 13, 1939 in River Hebert, NS. The family eventually moved to Amherst, NS. She attended nursing school at Hôtel-Dieu Hospital, Moncton, NB. Her career path as an RN led her to Campbellton, NB; Ottawa, ON; and Canso, NS. She and Dad primarily raised their family in Canso before moving to Halifax, then Amherst, where she lived with and was lovingly cared for by her son Brian. There was never a lull in conversation when Mom was around. She had a way of filling every room with stories, laughter, and a warmth that made everyone feel at home. Simple pleasures mattered to her, from her morning coffee and time spent knitting or reading, to singing along with her favourite country music, especially Conway and Elvis, keeping up with the Blue Jays, and always having an open door for family and friends. Above all, she cherished time with her family, especially grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mom will be deeply missed by her “two babies” (her boys), as she lovingly called them; her pride and joy, sons Brian and Paul (Kelly); and all of her beloved grandchildren: Sara, Justin, Haley; step-grandsons: Tyler, Kyle, and their mom, Janet; great grandchildren Reese and Sutton. She is survived by her brother Allen (Toni), as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly, in particular her niece and close friend Gail. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Frank Doiron (Marilyn) of Charlos Cove, NS and sister-in-law Bertha Doiron of Truro, NS. Stella was predeceased by her husband, Russell Doiron; siblings Ralph, Mary, Fred, Leon, Bob and Anne; brother-in-law Tom, and sisters-in-law Doris, Irene, Alice and Nora; nieces Myrna and Cheryl; and by her husband Russell’s siblings, Edmund and Kenneth, and sisters Shirley, Lorna and Rita. Cremation has taken place. Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church at 63 Church St., Amherst, NS on Saturday, February 7 at 11:00 am. Father Angus MacDougall officiating. Reception to follow immediately, in the adjacent Parish Hall. In Mom’s memory, we invite you to share stories, memories and a few laughs. Mom’s cremains will be buried with Dad’s at a later date in the Amherst Catholic Cemetery. To all those who contributed to Mom’s health and well-being in recent years, we extend our heartfelt thanks and will be forever grateful to her personal caregivers and her health care team, including Dr. Janneke Gradstein and Cheryl Smith, NP.
