Stuart Douglas Grandy

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Stuart Douglas Grandy, on March 12, 2024, surrounded by his family at the QEII Hospital. Stu was the son of the late Gwen & Gerald Grandy. He worked various jobs in his younger years but found his lifelong profession in 1988 working in the Orthotics/Prosthetic Department of the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre. He was known as a “Mr. Fixit”, if something needed repair or an improvement, he could always find a solution. Stu enjoyed many outdoor activities throughout his life such as hunting, fishing, kayaking, and camping. Whether it be a mountain bike ride down a muddy trail or a paddle on a tranquil lake he loved time spent in nature. In the summer he was never far from a golf course either with his friends or family at the yearly Bowers-Mattatall Classic. It was never about the score, but the time they enjoyed together. He loved nothing better than a fire in his firepit, a cold beer and good company. One of Stu’s biggest dreams was to move home to Westchester which was realized in the summer of 2021. It was there he spent his time watching Formula 1, mowing, gardening, and feeding wildlife on his three-acre property. We hope he’s now walking through the fields with Maya & Kobe. Stu is survived by his best friend and soulmate of 42 years, Nancy. His son, Tyler (Lauren), daughter, Kara (Brenan) and the newest love of his life, his granddaughter, Scarlett. As well as his sister, Beverly and brothers: Don (Helen) & Ken. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Peter, Philip (Carmen), Susan (Keith), Brian (Debbie), Richard (Neela), Rosemary (Mike) and numerous nieces and nephews who each held a special place in his heart. Throughout Stu’s life and interests, he crossed paths with a multitude of people and touched countless hearts, making lifelong friends along the way. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 6th from 2 - 4 pm at the Austenville Owl’s Club in Dartmouth. Dress is casual, as we know, comfort was one of his top priorities. Our sincerest gratitude to the staff of the 3A ICU at the VG hospital for their exceptional care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Stu to the Westchester Volunteer Fire Department or Hope for Wildlife.
